Membership

Qualifications

  1. All members must be permanent residents in the USA and are at least 18 years old.
  2. Each person wishing to be a member of the Foundation should be of good character and reputation and careful in his/her words and acts.
  3. Pay current annual dues.
  4. In addition, members must meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Must have lineage that can be traced back to the prefectures (Aetolia-Acarnania, Attica, Boeotia, Euboea, Evrytania, Phocis, Phthiotis) within the three (3) regions of Sterea Hellas of Greece (Dytiki, Anatoliki and Kentriki).
  • Be a spouse/domestic partner or the widow/widower of a qualified member.
  • Be an adopted child and/or step-child brought up by a qualified member.

Membership Privileges

Foundation members in good standing are entitled to the following:

    1. Right to vote and participate in the General Assemblies.
    2. Eligible to be elected as an officer, board member or appointed to chair and/or serve on committees.
    3. Discount on our hall rental.
    4. A one-time donation of $200 toward the culturally and religiously required post-funeral “Makaria”. The Makaria or Meal of the Blessedness follows the funeral and is an intricate part of the Greek tradition and Greek Orthodox religion.
    5. In the event of a member’s death, a representative of the Foundation should attend the viewing and place the Foundation’s banner on the casket.
    6. A representative will attend the funeral procession to the grave along with any other member(s) who wishes to attend. At the discretion of the family, our Foundation’s banner will be draped over the deceased members’ coffin during the church and cemetery services.
    7. A flower arrangement will be sent for the deceased along with a written sympathy expression.
    8. Deceased member’s name will be added to the Memorial Plaque.
    9. Provided that an active member is unable to fulfill their obligation due to medical/health reasons, they are still entitled to all the benefits due an active member.
